Mission and objectives

The Resident Coordinator (RC) system encompasses all organizations of the UN system dealing with operational activities for development, regardless of their formal presence in the country. The RC system brings together the various UN agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level. RCs are leaders of the UN Country Teams (UNCT) in over 130 countries and are the designated representatives of the UN Secretary-General at the country level.


In Jordan, the UN country team (UNCT) consists of 26 agencies, of which 19 with physical presence in the country, and supports Jordan’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UNCT operates under the UN Sustainable Development Framework (UNSDF), the UN’s five-year strategic partnership framework with the Government, which aims at supporting Jordan to achieve Jordan’s Vision 2025 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.


Context

The Communication and Coordination Associate will work under the direct supervision of the Communication and Advocacy Specialist and the Head of the UNRCO and will support the office to fulfil its advocacy and communication roles in support of the UNCT and the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator. S/He will also support the Head of Office to coordinate the development of the new UN Cooperation Framework with other UN entities and partners and support other UNCT joint initiatives. The Communication and Coordination Associate will work closely with the UN interagency Communications Group, with other members of the UNRCO and of the UN family in Jordan

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the UNRCO Communication and Advocacy Specialist and the Head of Office, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:


Communications:


• Develop daily news media monitoring

• Develop weekly social media monitoring

• Support the development of multimedia content and posting for online platforms [UN in Jordan website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram]

• Provide support to develop the quarterly newsletter of UN Impact Stories, including liaising with UN Agency focal points in this regard

• Maintain the RCO/ UN Communications weekly calendar of events.

• Support the organization and facilitation of events, as necessary.


Coordination:


• Support the development of the new UN Cooperation Framework, including the preparation of required planning documents, supporting stakeholder consultations and the UNCT configuration, taking notes of meetings and supporting the Head of Office in related coordination meetings (e.g. with Government, the Senior Programme Group, external partners).

• Support the organization of UNCT meetings, including the related preparation with relevant colleagues, follow-up on action points, as necessary, and taking notes of meetings

• Support the preparation of background notes, talking points and speeches for the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator.

• Support incoming high-level or technical missions visiting Jordan.

• Maintain data archives and information storage management, including the UNRCO shared folder.

• Support any other UNCT joint initiative, as required.

• Provide day-to-day support to office activities both virtually and in person, as necessary.

• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

• Daily news updates prepared and timely shared.

• Weekly social media monitoring undertaken and shared.

• The UN Jordan social media platforms effectively managed and new content daily developed.

• Quarterly newsletters of UN Impact Stories produced and circulated to UN and partners.

• UNRCO/ UN Communications weekly calendar of events effectively maintained and regularly updated.

• UN events effectively supported and adequate media coverage ensured.
